Windows 7 installation from USB Flash Disk

After my last posting about Windows XP installation from USB Flash Disk, I tried to install Windows 7 to a netbook using USB Flash Disk too. Everything went smoothly without a problem, it seems that Windows 7 was designed to cope with netbook, which has no CD/DVD ROM.

To install Windows 7 from USB flash disk, these are the steps:

  • Download and install Windows7-USB-DVD-tool, note that internet connection and reboot required to install.
  • Make ISO file from Windows 7 DVD, using Nero or other application.
  • Run Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool and, select ISO file of Windows 7.
  • Click Next, choose USB Device, and begin copying, just wait until copying process finished.
Windows 7 ISO file has size around 2-3.5 Gigabyte, so at least USB Flash Disk here should have space 4 GB (minimum). Copying process takes place 15-30 minutes without interruption.

To install Windows 7 from USB, set boot option in BIOS to boot from USB Flash Disk, this method not only work in netbook, but also work well in ordinary PC desktop.
