How to obtain coordinate (latitude, longitude) using Google Maps

Knowing coordinate of a certain place can be quite useful to point to specific location. Google Maps offers a feature to obtain latitude and longitude of specific place instantaneously.

To activate this feature, click Options in Google Maps page (gear icon in top right of Google Maps page) an choose Maps Labs. Scroll down and please enable LatLng Tooltip and LatLng Marker, then click Save changes to exit.
.
Now, every time we press shift key on keyboard, mouse pointer will show coordinate (latitude, longitude) it currently points. From low altitude, Google Maps shows accuracy of latitude and longitude until five decimal digits. Right click - Drop LatLng Marker to mark certain location with its coordinate.

Enabling regedit (registry editor) disabled by virus/worm in Windows XP

Sometimes, virus or worm disables registry editor, so users can not open registry editor when they are in need to change some values in it. Usually registry editor is opened when users click Start-Run and type 'regedit', when it is disabled, a pop up message appears saying that registry editor is disabled by Administrator.

To solve this problem follow these following procedures:

  4. When question 'Delete the registry value DisableRegistryTools (Yes/No)?' appears, press 'Y'
After following this steps, registry editor will be re-enabled. Usually virus/worm is the source of this problem, so it will be better to follow these steps after removing virus/worm in infected PC.

Acer Aspire 4730Z Drivers for Windows XP

I just installed Windows XP SP2 to a notebook, Acer Aspire 4730Z. I found out that several problems occurred. Windows XP with SP2 does not have SATA driver, so I must changed option AHCI to IDE in BIOS. More problems came when CD containing drivers from its vendor only have drivers for Windows Vista. Some of them work well in Windows XP environment, but the others does not.

After successfully installing Windows XP, XP almost recognized all hardware in Acer Aspire 4730Z, except for this following components:
After XP installation, only these eight drivers need to be installed. After googling for a while, those drivers for Windows XP above are found, they work well without problems.

Other variance of Acer Aspire 4730Z use another VGA and WLAN. They use ATI or NVIDIA as VGA instead of Intel, and use Broadcom, Intel, or Rlink as WLAN instead of Atheros, so if drivers for VGA and WLAN are not suitable for your notebook, please install other suitable drivers.

Energy Saving in our PC

Working with personal computer consumes considerable amount of energy. But, I often see that this energy is wasted by user, including myself. We often leave PC on for minutes or even hours doing nothing. If a PC consumes 100 Watt and left on a hour per day, we can calculate how much energy wasted in one year, and how much money wasted in electrical bill.

Making a PC more energy efficient is not a difficult task. Never left it on without work! If we often forget to shut it down, or often fall asleep in front of our PC, please set it to standby automatically. All Operating Systems has ability to stand by or hibernate automatically when left without work for several minutes, just turn on this service.

Problem: Unable to Instal Office 2007 in Windows XP

This is about Microsoft Office 2007 Installation problem in Windows XP.

After installing Windows XP to a Desktop Computer or laptop, sometimes there is a problem in installing Microsoft Office 2007. This problem usually occurs if Windows XP is installed not from CD-ROM, but from USB Flashdisk or other media other than CD-ROM and its brothers (CD-RW, DVD-ROM, and DVD). A message occurs during Office installation, telling that windows is unable to update some files and office installation stops afterward (the message says "The windows installer service cannot update one or more protected windows"). So we can not install Office 2007 in Windows XP in this case, and this is a simple solution to solve it.
  • Insert Windows XP CD Installation to Disk Drive or use Windows XP ISO file (open ISO file with any application such as Winrar)
  • Go to folder folder i386
  • Choose file FP40EXT.CAB and extract or open it using Winrar or other extractor apllication.
  • Choose file Fp4Autl.dll in FP40EXT.CAB and copy and paste it to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\40\bin
Those are all steps required, after finishing those steps Microsoft Office 2007 installation will work without problem.

Ginger Coffee and Cold

Ginger is a plant with edible root - note that we don't eat it like potato - known by human for centuries. Ginger root has typical hot taste suitable to be mixed with foods and beverages. I don't talk much about ginger here, but I will write my experience using ginger to relieve cold.
Ginger Coffee and Cold
After receiving any treatment to relieve cold, I usually drank hot coffee mixed with grinded fresh ginger. It's just plain black coffee, sugar, and ginger, its composition depend on personal taste. Its hot taste would spread from mouth, nose, to my stomach surely help me a lot to relieve my cold. After that usually I would feel that my body is getting better and had a long good night sleep. (Note that coffee is an option here, we can mix ginger with tea, milk, just sugar, or anything else)
Ginger Coffee and Cold
I really like hot ginger, the hotter the ginger is, it is my best choice. Fresh ginger kept in open clean air often grows some leaves, I noted that this undesired grow make it hotter, but I am not really sure about it.

Relieving Cold Symptoms: Kerokan or Gua Sha

Cold isn't really a serious disease, but its symptoms are really unpleasing. In my case, headache and nausea are always accompany my cold. So, having cold means that I could not work until I completely recovered.

There is a method to relieve cold without consuming any drugs, called gua sha in Chinese - Indonesian and Javanese call it kerokan. We just need lubrication (oil or balm - use cajuputi oil for its warm and soothing) and a metal coin (or a metal spoon) to scratch our back. Perhaps we also need a help to scratch our back, it is difficult to reach there. The method is simple, scratch your back from spine to both sides until your skin becomes redder. When you are finished your back will looks like a fish skeleton or tiger skin.

Afterwards, we should feel comfortable and cold symptoms are fading. It is said that this method triggers our body to release endorphin, it has an effect to relieve pain and bring pleasant feeling. Endorphin is released when we feel pain because of injuries or something similar. Kerokan or guasha is not really hurt, but it is a bit ticklish. Apply enough pressure during scratching so it is not hurt, but tickling sensation is perhaps unavoidable.
.
Drinking ginger may relieve our cold faster, we can drink it raw with sugar or add grounded ginger to a cup of tea or coffee

Bicycle and Mask

I prefer to go around town using bicycle and my reason is not so 'pious' like environmentalist. I simply like it and for some reason I won't have insomnia afterward after unintentionally doing exercise by riding bicycle.
bicycle and mask
Riding bicycle (or motorcycle) is not a problem in countryside or quite road, but a problem arise when riders are riding through congested road together with many motorized vehicles (I Don't mean electric ones). Emission from these vehicles cause problems to riders. Personally, I often feel headache after passing 'polluted air' on my way. Some of my friend said that perhaps CO emission from motorized vehicles is the 'devil' who cause my headache. I can see their logic but I don't know precisely if they are right or not, I never visit a doctor because of this headache.
bicycle mask
For this problem I got a simple solution long ago. Not it is simple and cheap, but also very effective. Yes it is just a mask, a simple mask to wear when we ride bicycle. Wear this mask when you pass through polluted air around high congested traffic. I don't know whether mask is truly effective equipment or merely a suggestion, but I do got positive effect after wearing mask, no more headache after riding bike in congested road. A simple handkerchief tied as mask also has the same effect.
bicycle mask
Perhaps this simple solution solve this problem, but try to find road with less polluted air to ride a bicycle. It is safer and better for our bodies.

Mountain and city bike

This is a picture of a mountain bike, specially built for off road cycling. Its design makes riders able to concentrate better during riding on mountainous terrain. I am used to ride this type of bicycle to go to school and college. It, surely, has advantage when I took a bad terrain shortcut, but a problem arises when riding it in ordinary road. More problems arise if our bike have problems on gear, chain, brakes, etc.

Because an off road bicycle like this requires rider to slightly bend down gripping handlebar, I feel slight lower back pain after ride. This won't last long but it is disturbing enough. I also feel that I pulled my breath faster every-time I ride an off road bicycle. This is normal in mountainous terrain but we don't need that much energy to ride bike around neighborhood and town.

So, if we just need to ride around town, what we need is a city bike like this one. Riders can hold handlebar with straighten up position and ride. This reduces possibility of lower back pain and spends less energy. Personally I like bicycle more to drive around town than any motorized vehicle.

Promises in an Israeli Prison

This is a writing by Santi Soekanto, an Indonesian journalist boarded in MV Mavi Marmamara, about her experience in Israeli prison after Israel's IDF attack on Gaza Flotilla. Written in Amman Jordania after their release and deportation.

Santi Soekanto

AMMAN

"You have entered the State of Israel, so you must do it!"

The man in the blue uniform of Israel immigration authority pointed to a slot in a machine where people had their finger prints taken for some administrative purposes. He was probably losing patience, his voice rising above the din in one of the halls of the women’s prison in Bersheva in the south of the Israeli-occupied Palestine.

"I did not enter Israel. I did not come here by choice. Your soldiers kidnapped and brought me here by force," I replied, amazed, even as I was speaking, that I had the strength to be this calm.

"Are you refusing to do this?"

"I refuse."

"You must do it!" The man was now shouting now, the veins in his neck bulging. He then turned to another man, quite likely his superior, and talked rapidly in Hebrew. The second man approached me, still standing in front of a digital camera installed on the top of the machine.

"Look, this is only for ID purpose. Just place your finger there," the second man tried to reason with me.

"You have taken my picture, you have taken my passport, what else do you need? How do I know that you won’t be using my finger prints for some other purposes, to follow my movements?" I was becoming even more obstinate.

"I promise you that we won’t use it to follow you around…"

I had to laugh at that. "Your soldiers killed people. Now you are making a promise…"

"I have just traveled to some countries including Thailand, and I had to give my finger prints even there," he said again, his voice was now rising.

"You traveled. I was kidnapped."

**

Before the second man could say anything again, I scooted off towards the dozens of lawyers who had just come into the prison, presumably in response to the international uproar over Israel's raid on the Freedom Flotilla to Gaza on Monday, June 1, just after the Fajr prayer.

I grabbed hold of one of the lawyers and rapidly told him about what was happening. He then strode over to the desk, talked in Hebrew, and then said to me, "It’s only for ID purpose, but you can say no," before going away to his other client.

"OK, so I am saying no then."

The first man began shouting abuse at me again. His superior, clearly exasperated, again tried to reason. "I promise you. I promise you. Just place your finger there."

"What’s your name?" I asked, staring at the name tag on his right chest and remembering that my Indonesian friend, Surya Fachrizal, was shot on his right chest during the Israeli attack, and wondering where he had been taken after we were separated by the Israeli troops.

"Dotan Smith. My name is Dotan Smith. I promise you that this is only for recognition purpose," the second man said.

I was tired - I hadn't slept for two nights, and it had been less than two days since we were attacked by the Israeli commandos. I and hundreds of other humanitarian workers onboard the Mavi Marmara aid ship to Gaza had been the target of indiscriminate shooting.

We had to watch our friends being killed and maimed before our eyes, and when the Israeli commandos had taken over the boat, we had been searched, our possessions confiscated and ransacked.

We had been prodded and kicked at, we had been handcuffed, brought to the upper deck and left to fry in the Mediterranean sun for hours and hours.

We had had Uzis, M16s, MPs, pistols pointed at our heads by soldiers who were armed to the teeth, even as they shouted abuse at us. We had been brought to Port Ashdod where huge tents had been erected, and we had been made to go through desks where officers processed our papers.

We had been mocked at and ridiculed when we refused to sign a statement that said we had entered Israel illegally so we either had to go to prison or be deported. We had been transported by prison vans to Bersheva in the south of Palestine occupied by Israel, and detained there where we had been desperate because we could not contact our loved ones.

**

So I placed my forefingers in the machine slot and endured the smug look at the first man's face. I then ran back to cell 3305 that I had been sharing with three Western women: one hard-swearing Australian journalist, a young activist from the Netherland whose arms bore bruises after she was tasered, manhandled, handcuffed and her head bagged, and a long-haired, soft-spoken Free Gaza activist who chain-smoked and refused to wear the towels, sweat-shirts and T-shirts, socks and male underwear that the prison wardens gave us.

I had told the three women that what we had undergone was nothing compared to what the Palestinians have had to endure for the past 63 years.

"This is what the Gazans have to endure day in, day out," Anne of the Netherland said.

**

I was grateful that the cell was then empty. I sat on my bunk-bed in search of solitude, before raising my hands to the sky as I prayed. "O Allah, nahnu mazlumuun. We are oppressed, violated, terrorised. Your Messenger Sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam has promised there will not be anything between the prayers of the oppressed and You. Your promises are true. Rasulullah's promises are true. So please O Allah, hear my prayers..."

For the first time since the ordeal began, two hot tears came into my eyes, as I supplicated for all things that mattered most to me. The safety and integrity of my faith. The protection from Allah's wrath. The liberation of Al-Quds. The freedom of Muslims in Palestine and elsewhere and the destruction of the oppressors...

* The writer is a contributing editor of The Brunei Times who was on board the Mavi Marmara. She is also the editor of Majalah ALIA and a worker of the NGO, Sahabat Al-Aqsha, in Jakarta.
Allah be with the patient...

How to choose a torrent file?

Bittorrent offers more choice to download anything, ranging from video, audio, ebook, etc., almost everything are available in sites tracking torrent files such as thepiratebay.org (this one is my favorite). From my experience, to choose a certain torrent file, we must consider several things first. As we have known all along, if we search certain video in bittorrent tracker as Pirate Bay, then there will be many torrents available for a video file we want. We must choose one of them carefully to get fast download and good quality files.

  • First, try to choose a file with more seeder than other files, remember bittorrent logics that more downloader means faster download. Please consider comments on that file, usually good files receive positive comments. Be careful if there is comment about Trojan, bad quality file, and as such, try compare all of comments on that file and then conclude it afterward yourself. If we able to conclude wisely, then there is greater chance that we would get good torrent file resulting in faster download and good downloaded files.
  • If you try to download video, try to look first to release date of home video of that movie, the release date of home video of a movie is available in IMDB or wikipedia. Good movie is always a good rip from released DVD or Blu-ray, so if a torrent file is claimed containing good movie file ripped from DVD before DVD or Blu-Ray release, it is almost absolutely to be fake, it can be a camera recording from a cinema, absolutely bad in audio and picture. Unless its uploader got a leaked video secretly from filmmaker.
  • Generally, more seeder will cause faster download, but this is not always the case. Sometimes, I got slower torrent even if it had many seeders, I even got faster torrent even if there are less seeder than other torrent files. I didn’t know what the exact causes are, but I suspected that it also always depends on speed of seeder internet connection. If there are many seeders with slow connection, then considerably less seeder torrents with fast connection may surpass torrent files with more seeder.
There are no exact rules about how to choose a torrent files, we can conclude many rules for ourselves based on our own experience. It would be good too if we compare torrent files and then choose the best of them.
